Pedersen Toyota Receives 2012 Toyota President’s Award for 7th Consecutive Year
Award marks 16th time overall that Pedersen has received Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. Inc., highest dealership honor
Fort Collins, CO: May 10, 2013
Pedersen Toyota Scion today announced that it has received Toyota's prestigious Presidents Award for the 2012 year that recognizes Toyota’s top performing dealers across the nation who demonstrate a commitment to maintaining Toyota’s highest standards for sales excellence and customer satisfaction.
“We are very proud to be recognized by Toyota with the President’s award for the 7th consecutive year for the ongoing commitment that our associates make towards providing the highest levels of customer service in our parts, service and sales operations,” said Mark Pedersen, President and General Manager of Pedersen Toyota. “We would also like to thank the best customers in Northern Colorado for supporting our organization and helping make this difficult achievement possible.”
To qualify as a Presiden’t Award winner, Toyota dealerships must excel in a number of different categories including sales satisfaction, service satisfaction, market share, vehicle delivery excellence and employee certification. Dealerships must meet or exceed the standard in all areas of dealership performance in order to qualify for the award.
The 2012 award marks the 7th consecutive year and 16th time overall that Pedersen has been recognized by Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. Inc. for the award.
“This award caps what was already an outstanding 2012 where we saw more than 20% growth in new Toyota sales and welcomed in several exciting new models to the Toyota family including the redesigned Avalon and Avalon Hybrid, Prius C, and the Scion FRS sports car,” said Pedersen. “As we move into 2013 we are very optimistic that it will be another strong year for Pedersen Toyota and the Northern Colorado community and we look forward to continuing to be a trusted partner for our customer’s automotive needs.”
Family owned and operated since 1972, Pedersen Toyota Scion employs more than 115 people and provides new and used Toyota vehicle sales, Toyota service, Toyota parts and a collision repair center. Pedersen Toyota Scion is located at 4455 S. College Ave in Fort Collins. They can be reached at (970) 223-3100 or at www.pedersentoyota.com

Coloradans bought more new cars last year than they have since 2000, with more fuel-efficient models leading the way.
New vehicle sales were up nearly 22 percent across the state last year compared with 2011, according to the Colorado Auto Outlook Report released by the Colorado Automobile Dealers Association, or CADA. December sales were up 20.1 percent compared with December 2011. Colorado sales far outpaced national sales, which rose 13 percent.
The increased sales are one more sign consumers are feeling better about the economy and more secure about their jobs, said CSU economist Martin Shields. “People are getting back to work, the recovery is established and people are convinced it is here to stay for a while,” he said.
People patched up their cars during the recession, holding on to them longer than they typically would, Shields said. But eventually people can’t put off that decision any longer.
Those who are walking into showrooms are more informed consumers, said Mike Croce, general sales manager at Pedersen Toyota, 4455 S. College Ave., where new car sales were up more than 20 percent last year. They are not only looking at fuel efficiency but at total cost of ownership, resale value and longevity, he said.
While sales are not quite back to pre-recession levels, Croce said the improved economy, focus on fuel efficiency and an array of new models in his showroom have all led to an increase in sales. Last year, Pedersen sold 1,499 new cars, up from 1,246 in 2011, an admittedly slower year for car sales.
Tim Jackson, president of CADA, said the major brands with the most increase in sales were Acura, Jeep, Toyota, Volkswagen, Infiniti, Land Rover, Chrysler and Honda. Each was up in sales by more than 30 percent year over year.
“It really continues to be a trend of fuel efficiency leading the way,” Croce said. Last year, Toyota added to its popular Prius line, adding larger and smaller models as well as a full plug-in that can run completely off a charge. The plug-in is not technically available in Colorado yet, but Pedersen was able to bring some in from the outside, he said.
John Carroll, owner of Ed Carroll Motors, said Volkswagen had its best sales last year since 1970, propelled by its new clean diesel engines in VWs and Audi lineups. The clean diesel can get 40 to 50 mph “and still give a lot of horsepower and torque,” Carroll said.
Overall, his sales were up more than 30 percent from 2011. Volkswagen and Audi sales dipped “a very minor” 6 and 8 percent at the height of the recession, faring better than some major brands, and have seen steady growth for three years in a row, he said.
The average age of vehicles on the road are now the oldest they’ve been in the past 30 to 40 years, maybe since World War II, creating a lot of pent-up demand, he said, explaining part of the bump in sales.
Porsche sales at Ed Carroll Motors also were up 15 percent, although Carroll declined to say how many high-end Porsches it sold.
The percent increase in sales was the largest in the past 50 years, Jackson said. The all-time high for new car registrations was set in 2000, with 207,836 sales compared with 158,630 last year. “While registrations have been on the rise for the last four years, they have not kept up with Colorado’s significant population growth, which represents opportunity for more sales,” Jackson said.
“And we should note that changes in year-over-year new vehicles make it fairly clear that Colorado consumers are still focused on increased fuel economy, with most of the growth occurring in small- and medium-size vehicle segments.”
In Colorado, 158,630 new vehicles were registered from January through December 2012 versus 130,179 for the same period in 2011, a 21.9 percent increase. Larimer County’s new car registration numbers were not immediately available.
The used vehicle market increased 3.5 percent in December — vehicles seven years old or newer — and was up 2.5 percent for the entire year.
